LCRA regional councils
Making the connection between your community and LCRA

About the LCRA Regional Council program
The LCRA Regional Council program provides two-way communication between LCRA and communities in its service area on LCRA issues, projects and activities. The councils play a key role in providing feedback, helping LCRA identify and analyze regional issues and consider solutions. They were created to build trust, improve understanding, and strengthen relationships in the LCRA service area.

Six regional councils were established in January 2009 and a seventh, the Bastrop/Fayette Regional Council, was established in January 2010. Read the news release about the volunteers appointed by the LCRA Board to serve on the councils.

The regional councils consider a broad range of issues, including growth and the increasing demand for water, electricity, public safety information and recreational space. The members also share information with community groups.

Qualities
LCRA strives to appoint members who will represent diverse interests, including property ownership, community leadership, recreation, the environment and agriculture. They must be well informed about community needs, interests and viewpoints, and willing to devote the time and energy it takes to attend scheduled meetings and share information with their communities.

Responsibilities
In general, council members:

  • Represent their communities and work with them and LCRA to promote clear, accurate understanding of the issues related to population growth.
  • Learn about and discuss LCRA issues, projects and activities.
  • Understand and articulate a thorough knowledge of community needs, interests and viewpoints.
  • Share information with community groups.
  • Sign a charter to help ensure trust and credibility and make a commitment to LCRA and their communities.
  • Choose to serve either a two- or four-year term.
  • Attend at least six two-hour meetings a year. Occasionally, the meeting length may be more than two hours because of a special tour or presentation. The meeting locations will be in the region and will vary.
  • Elect a chair and vice chair who meet at least quarterly to plan for council meetings.
