The Colorado River Trail and the Texas Leadership Institute is cosponsoring a seminar entitled, "Social Media Marketing: Using Facebook, Twitter, and Blogs to Promote Your Community." The seminar will be held in Austin, TX at LCRA's Redbud Center on June 11, 2009. The seminar is only $50 and includes all course materials and lunch.

Using social media marketing, you can promote your community to visitors, keep residents informed and engaged, and participate in meaningful conversations with your customers. This seminar is ideal for people in the tourism industry, municipal government, chambers of commerce, economic development groups, and those interested in social media marketing.

MEET THE PRESENTERS

Carla Pendergraft,

Carla Pendergraft has been working with websites and technology since 1998, when she cobbled together her first website. She has created over 60 websites for both businesses and non-profit entities, including several for festivals and events. She is Director of Sales and Internet Development for the City of Waco Convention & Visitors Bureau department, whose website enjoys over a million visitors annually. 

Carla has spoken to many audiences of economic development and tourism professionals on behalf of the State of Texas, Department of Agriculture, as well as at various conventions in Texas and nationwide. She is known for speaking on a level that is comfortable for those new to technology concepts, but she has plenty of material for the more advanced as well. She is married, with a grown child, a 9-year old, and two Huskies.

 
Ellie Mirman,

Ellie Mirman is an inbound marketing manager at HubSpot, an internet marketing software startup based in Cambridge, MA. Ellie specializes in event, email, and social media marketing, and also manages HubSpot’s monthly marketing webinar series, which draws thousands of registrants to each event. Prior to HubSpot, Ellie worked in a variety of marketing communications roles. She regularly contributes to the HubSpot blog at Blog.HubSpot.com and can be found on Twitter @ellieeille.

 


Katie Cook,
Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau

Katie Cook is the Marketing Communications Manager at the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau. Katie started out as an intern at the Austin CVB and has worked her way up to her current position. Katie manages all interactive marketing for the organization, including the company’s website, e-marketing campaigns, social media marketing and search engine optimization strategies.
 
Prior to interning at the Austin CVB, Katie interned at Tate Austin Public Relations. Katie has volunteered with the Texas Book Festival as event committee chair as well as assisted with publicity for the festival.

Katie holds a degree in Mass Communications-Public Relations from Texas State University. She and her husband, Patrick, live in Round Rock and have a 5 year old son Ethan.

 
Will Hampton,
City of Round Rock

Will Hampton has been the Communications Director for the City of Round Rock since 1998. He oversees citizen participation, media relations, marketing and public relations for the City. The City’s award-winning communications programs endeavor to build credibility and trust with citizens and others by being transparent and straightforward. He has spoken at national and state conferences on branding, citizen participation and social media.
