The cultural diversity of Texas can be seen in Wharton County. Rich cultural traditions survive here — from Hispanic roots to immigrants from Holland and Germany. The county is named for two brothers from Tennessee who served with the Republic of Texas at the Battle of San Jacinto.

• El Campo
  This city has 25 murals from old photographs on the sides of buildings. It was founded in 1882 on the site of a railroad camp known as Prairie Switch. The Main Street Historic District includes several turn-of-the-century buildings. The El Campo Museum of Natural History features exhibits of big game animals from around the world. The museum also houses displays of sea shells, local wildlife and waterfowl.
• Wharton
  Established as the county seat, Wharton was founded in 1846. The downtown historic district includes the courthouse square. On the banks of the Colorado, Wharton Riverfront Park features almost two miles of walking trails, rest rooms, two playgrounds, and three covered pavilions with picnic tables and grills. There also is a fishing pier/canoe launch. The park is completely accessible to the handicapped.
• 20th Century Technology Museum  This museum has received wide publicity for documenting the innovations of the last century. The Museum collects, preserves, and displays everyday objects of historical technology and serves as a unique educational and cultural center for better understanding the progressive timeline of the products that we enjoy using today.

  Danevang
  The name of this community means Danish Field. South of El Campo on Highway 71, the town was formed in 1894. Once every resident spoke Danish, which is why the town has been proclaimed the "Danish Capital of Texas" by the Texas Legislature. The community was built and remains centered around the Danevang Lutheran Church, which is open daily for tours.
• Egypt Plantation Museum
  The Egypt Plantation Museum is housed in the former Egypt Railroad Depot, circa 1900. The Museum was started in 1946 and has grown into one of the largest privately owned museums in Texas.
• Glen Flora
  Established in 1900, but predated by a general store and plantation built in 1895, Glen Flora offers a look into a more rustic Texas than most remember. Located west of Wharton on Texas 102.
• East Bernard
  The first reference to the town of East Bernard was in 1874. In the late 1880s word got around that it was the ideal place to farm because of the fertile soil. Located north of Wharton on Texas 60.
• Hungerford
  First settled by planters who were members of Stephen F. Austin's colony, this town was developed when it became a rail stop in 1882. Located north of Wharton on Texas 60.
