CRA Employees’ United Charities is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose mission is to provide financial support to nonprofit organizations within LCRA’s service area. United Charities is funded by LCRA employees in partnership with LCRA’s customers. Employees voluntarily donate up to two hours of their pay to United Charities per month. United Charities contributes more than $475,000 annually, supporting a variety of nonprofit organizations throughout LCRA’s service area.
Requests for donations are reviewed by employee committees with careful consideration given to each request. The donations, averaging $500 to $2,500 per nonprofit, are awarded on a yearly basis.
American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life Citing one example, LCRA employees recently donated $16,250 to sponsor 32 Relay For Life events in 28 counties. Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s nationwide signature event, which raised over 1 billion dollars since its start in 1985 and educated over 4,700 communities in cancer awareness and prevention in 2006 alone.
LCRA employees have been participating in Relay For Life events since 1998, each year increasing donations and volunteer activities. This spring, LCRA Employees’ United Charities sponsored Relay For Life events in these counties: Austin, Bandera, Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Colorado, Comal, DeWitt, Fayette, Gonzales, Guadalupe, Hays, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Lampasas, Lavaca, Lee, Llano, Matagorda, McCulloch, Menard, Real, San Saba, Travis, Washington and Williamson. How to apply
LCRA Employees' United Charities contributes to local nonprofit organizations that are tax-exempt under section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and within LCRA's service area.
To apply, print the LCRA Employees' United Charities Grant Application and return it to the address listed. Applications must be submitted in writing and include information as outlined in the giving guidelines on page two of the application. All questions should be answered and supporting documentation included when submitting an application. If possible, each application should list three levels of need to allow the reviewing committee to fund a smaller amount if funds are not available to meet the initial or larger request.
