njoy outdoor fun and adventure at LCRA's 40 parks and recreation areas along the Texas Colorado River, from the Hill Country to the Gulf Coast. There's plenty to see and do, whether you stay for a day or a week. Swim, sail, fish, hike, mountain bike, observe wildlife, stargaze, take a guided river trip - even bring your horse for a walk.
LCRA has several types of parks that provide public access to the Highland Lakes, lakes Bastrop and Fayette and the lower Colorado River.
Developed parks typically have boat ramps, fishing docks, swim areas, trails, playgrounds, picnic pavilions, RV and tent sites, rest rooms and showers. Some have lodges or cabins. Nature parks have natural science centers that offer outdoor educational and recreational programs for youths and adults.
Recreation areas on the Highland Lakes are more rustic with fewer facilities. Most are great for tent camping. Some have boat ramps, picnic tables and fire rings. Many have trails with spectacular views of the lakes.
Natural resource areas are open to the public on a limited basis. Call ahead to schedule a visit or to reserve facilities.
River access sites between Austin and Matagorda Bay provide public access to the Colorado River for canoes and kayaks.
LCRA doesn’t really stand for Learning, Camping, Rafting and Activities — but it could. With parks from the Highland Lakes to the Texas Coast and an array of education and nature programs, LCRA has a lot to offer scouts and the people who lead them.
