Special meeting on Dec. 7
Board to consider water service to Hamilton Pool Road landowners; format allows comments from stakeholders, public

The LCRA Board of Directors will hold a special meeting on Dec. 7 to consider action on a proposed water line along Hamilton Pool Road west of Austin. The meeting will begin at 2 p.m. at The Terrace Club, 2600 U.S. Highway 290, east of Dripping Springs. (See map.)

Meeting format
The Board has invited representatives of three area planning groups to make presentations at the meeting and has extended similar invitations to specific stakeholders, including environmental groups, property owner groups and landowners who have requested the water service. The Board also will hear one hour of public comment.

Individuals may fill out a card requesting to speak, and the Board will draw the names of speakers at random. Each speaker will have three minutes. Speakers may not pool their time and are urged to keep comments brief and avoid repeating previous comments to allow the Board to hear from as many people as possible.

During the past several months the Board and staff also have received considerable input from the public on the Hamilton Pool Road water line proposal through e-mails, letters and two open houses held in November.

The Board is scheduled to vote on the water line following the presentations. (The issue is not scheduled to be on the Board's agenda at its regular meeting on Dec. 15.)

Background
Last May the Board directed staff to take steps to extend surface water to the western Travis and northern Hays County area - consistent with LCRA's mission to provide reliable, low-cost water utility service. At the same time, the Board deferred a final decision on the proposed Hamilton Pool Road water line until December to allow additional time for regional water quality planning efforts to move forward.

The Board's actions grew out of a request by landowners in the Hamilton Pool Road area for surface water to serve new developments they are planning. The Board, which reviewed comments from hundreds of people on the issue, determined that LCRA has the responsibility to provide water service to the area and to do so in an environmentally sound manner.
