Redbud Center to improve information flow during floods, other emergencies

Lives and property will be safer along the lower Colorado River after completion of the Redbud Center next summer. The center will provide a central location for LCRA's emergency management, public safety and river management operations.

LCRA manages the six Highland Lakes and dams, operating them during floods to reduce the risk of property damage and loss of life downstream. It also coordinates with local, regional and state authorities to provide emergency planning and training, disaster recovery and hazard mitigation. Having a centralized site and advanced technology will help streamline communication and coordination within LCRA and also with local and state emergency management agencies.

LCRA also will use the facility's design and location near Tom Miller Dam to educate visitors about natural resources, LCRA's operation of the six Highland Lakes dams on the Colorado River, water conservation, and the connection between the river and the services that LCRA provides to Central Texas. The 35,000-square-foot facility under construction at the corner of Redbud Trail and Lake Austin Boulevard in Austin is designed to meet the standards of the United States Green Building Council.
