If your idea of camping includes sleeping quarters with beds, air conditioning, heat and running water, South Shore Park on Lake Bastrop awaits your reservation.
The park offers 18 mini-cabins and 38 RV sites. The mini-cabins have electricity, heat and air conditioning, ceiling fans, bunk beds that sleep five and front porches. Water faucets are located near the mini-cabins. All sites include picnic tables and barbecue pits. A community bathhouse includes restrooms and showers. The RV sites include electric hook-ups, running water and fire rings.
“Families with kids tend to prefer the Osprey Point cabins because they are closer to the playground and swimming area,” said Jill Brackin, South Shore park employee. “And visitors with boats prefer the Waterfront Cabins because they provide quick access to the lake.”
The 906-acre lake contains bass, crappie, perch and catfish. Anglers can drop a line from the park's fishing pier or head out on a boat from the park's ramp. Sailing, swimming, skiing and canoeing are other popular activities on Lake Bastrop. (The park offers on-site canoe rentals.) On shore, park guests can play volleyball, hike on three miles of trails or take the kids to the playground.
“We’re full just about every weekend during peak season,” said Brackin. “I suggest making reservations at least four weeks in advance for weekends. It’s usually pretty easy to reserve a spot during the week.”
