Celebrating its 20th year, LakeFest 2011 will be held on Lake Marble Falls Aug. 12 through 14. For three days, the water of Lake Marble Falls will be transformed into a “liquid quarter-mile racetrack” to the delight of the spectators enjoying the party-like atmosphere along the banks.

Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., head over to Johnson Park in Marble Falls to meet the more than 120 drivers and see the boats at the Show & Shine. While there, fans can buy official LakeFest shirts and posters, collect autographs, and even pose for pictures with the drag boat drivers. At dusk, the onlookers are treated to something special – the Top-Fuelers “fire up, or shoot flames out of their exhaust pipes with an eardrum-splitting roar!

On Saturday morning, the qualifying races begin at 7 a.m. and last all day. One of the highlights of the day is “The Gambler,” where boats of all classes go head to head in races based purely on the luck of the draw.

Sunday features another round of “The Gambler” prior to the opening ceremonies at noon. Spectators can watch the Top-Fuel boats race across the lake at speeds reaching an astonishing 240 miles per hour! The awards ceremony will end the day immediately following the last race.

Tickets range from $5 to $20 dollars depending on the day. Three-day tickets are also available, and children under five are free. New this year is the VIP Spectator Area. For the coolest view in the park, order this special package that puts you in a semi-private viewing area right on the water. Also included in the package is a table for 10 along the shoreline. Call the Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce for availability and pricing at 1-800-759-8178.
