AUSTIN — A boil-water notice covering parts of the West Travis County Regional Water System has been lifted this morning after tests showed the water was free of bacteria.
A water line break on Sunday caused a sharp drop in pressure, and LCRA issued a precautionary notice for residents in the affected area to boil water until the tests were complete. LCRA crews repaired the water line break in the West Travis County Regional Water System and restored service to about 300 homes on Sunday evening.
LCRA had issued the boil-water notice because the line break caused water pressure to drop. The line break caused pressure in the water system to drop below 20 pounds per square inch, the point at which the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality requires that water users must be notified of the need to boil water from their taps before household use. While water service was restored Sunday evening, LCRA did not receive the positive tests that the water was free of bacteria until this morning; it typically takes 24 hours to complete such tests.
Residents in the affected area were asked to boil water as a precautionary measure. The affected area included southern Travis County, south of Hwy. 290 and the following streets and subdivisions: Zyle Rd., FM 1826, Appaloosa Run, Fox Run, Hills of Texas, Hills of Texas Estates, Overlook of the Hills of Texas, Bear Creek, Bear Creek Estates, Kit Carson Rd., Barsana Dahm, Friendship Ranch, Nutty Brown Rd., Signal Hill Rd. and Signal Hill View.
Boil-water notices ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes. Water for drinking, cooking, and ice-making should be boiled and cooled before consumption. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, residents may buy bottled water or get water from some other suitable source.
