Meteorolgists Day briefing today at 11:30 A.M.

April 28, 2010 09:00 AM

LCRA’s annual Meteorologists Day briefing is TODAY from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the LCRA headquarters at 3700 Lake Austin Blvd. We’ll meet in the board room of the Hancock Building.

Meteorologists, reporters and photographers, as well as any other journalists who need to understand the Highland Lakes system, are welcome to attend.

At the briefing, LCRA experts will discuss what to expect in the Highland Lakes over the busy summer season, as well as offer a detailed look at how LCRA operates its six dams in the Highland Lakes area. We’ll examine the high chances for flooding this year, as well as explain when, where and why some floodgates are opened while others are not during flooding situations. We’ll also tour the state-of-the-art River Operations Center, which normally is not accessible to the public, and put you in our seats in some real-life flood situations in a new quiz show designed especially for Austin-area journalists.

Lunch will be served, but the deadline to reserve a meal has passed. We’ll do our best to accommodate everyone, but no promises to those who didn’t RSVP.

LCRA staff will be available for one-on-one interviews at 1:30 p.m. Interviews in Spanish will be available at 1:45 p.m.
