LCRA’s Nobody’s Waterproof team will give away 200 life jackets at Lake Travis Saturday, June 9, to help keep visitors to the lake safe this summer. The 200 life jackets represent the average number of people who drown in Texas every year between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
The give-away will begin at 11 a.m. at Bob Wentz Park at Windy Point at the Nobody’s Waterproof booth. The free jackets are U.S. Coast Guard-approved and are available in both children and adult sizes. The U.S. Coast Guard recommends that life jackets be tested for wear and buoyancy at least once each year, and that waterlogged, faded, or leaky jackets be discarded.
The Nobody's Waterproof team will be on Lake Travis Saturday afternoon, giving out prizes, offering water safety tips and reminding lake visitors to play it safe on the water. The campaign boat and equipment trailer are now sporting new Wear It Texas! graphics, thanks to a grant from the National Safe Boating Council.
Check out the new Nobody's Waterproof public service announcements at www.nobodyswaterproof.com, which also provides swimming and boating safety tips.
