LCRA invites the public to the grand opening ceremony for the LCRA San Saba River Nature Park on Tuesday, May 8, at 1 p.m. The park is at 1107 E. Wallace Street (U.S. Highway 190) in San Saba.
The ceremony is scheduled to include brief comments from San Saba Mayor Ken Jordan, LCRA Board Chair Timothy Timmerman, LCRA Board Member Michael McHenry, LCRA General Manager Becky Motal and former LCRA Board Member Clay Nettleship. A park plaque also will be unveiled.
LCRA and the City of San Saba are celebrating the official grand opening of the park – a model example of a project for the public accomplished through a partnership between LCRA and a city.
LCRA developed the 40-acre park with the agreement the city would operate and maintain it. The City of San Saba took over operation of the park from LCRA in the fall of 2011.
LCRA added amenities that include a 1.5-mile hike-and-bike trail, a fishing access area, several historical and archaeological interpretive areas, a wildlife viewing site, a parking area and restroom facilities. The new park links to Risien Park and Mill Pond Park, both of which existed prior to the creation of the LCRA San Saba River Nature Park.
