Outdoor Education and Recreation Programs

LCRA's nature parks and natural science centers offer a diverse array of outdoor education and recreation programs. Most programs must be scheduled by schools, groups and organizations in advance. Some classes are offered at specific times and dates for individuals, families and groups.

Natural science programs
Pre-K through 12th grade students, home-schoolers, scouts and other youth development groups can learn about water quality, wildlife, geology, and other science and natural history topics in these TEKS-aligned programs. One-day and multi-day programs are offered at the following locations.

River and bay programs
LCRA nature parks offer boating, rafting and kayaking adventures on the Highland Lakes, Colorado River and Matagorda Bay. LCRA offers group and individual rivertrips to schools, youth groups, families, adults and corporate groups.

Team-building challenge course
The McKinney Roughs Challenge Course enables adult, youth, school, government and corporate groups to develop and practice team-building and leadership skills. Groups have fun and enjoy the outdoors while building dynamic leadership and team skills and experiencing personal growth on the course.

Summer camps
Week-long day camps at McKinney Roughs Nature Park and Matagorda Bay Nature Park are available for kids to experience outdoor fun.

Public programs
Many outdoor education and recreation programs are open to the public. These programs have specific times and dates and are open to individuals, families and groups.
