The POWERHOUSE energy investigation program was brought to Center Point Middle School by Bandera Electric Cooperative (BEC) and Kerrville Public Utility Board (KPUB).

Students receive an 8-page energy investigation guide to take home and fill out with their parent's assistance. The investigation guide asks students questions about their home's energy and water use. It also has tips to help the students answer the questions.

Each student receives a 4-page personalize report from their investigation guide information. The reports list patterns of energy use, comparisons with statewide average households, and energy and water-saving tips.

The personalize report helps students and their families see how they can save money on their utility bills. Students also learn the environmental impacts their homes have on the air, water and land through their yearly energy and water usage. This CPMS student shares his report with Steve Williams at BEC.

Bob Keeling and Eric Smith of KPUB join the classroom to help students with the program. They answer questions about electricity and electrical safety.

The Tips and Savings section of the personalize report shows students how they can save energy, water and money by using compact fluorescent lighting and low-flow devices like low-flow showerheads.

To finish the program, a jeopardy-type game is played to test the knowledge of the students about the program. The game is also a review for a quiz given to their teacher.

POWERHOUSE was a fun way to learn about energy and water efficiency. Thank you BEC and KPUB for bring the program to our 7th grade science classes at Center Point Middle School.
