Bandera Electric Cooperative brought the POWERHOUSE energy investigation program to the students at Utopia Elementary.

Each student received an 8-page energy investigation guide which they took home to perform a home energy audit with the help of their parents. The guide asked questions about their homes' energy and water use.

As a result of the home energy investigation, students received a personalized four-page report. From this report students learned how the environment is impacted by their households' use of energy. The report also has tips and savings on how to reduce their energy and water cost. Jim Boyd of BEC helps a student understand the information in the report.

Students learn that low-flow showerheads can save up to 50% of their household's water usage. They also learn that compact fluorescent lamps can help save on their home's electric cost.

Thank you BEC for sponsoring POWERHOUSE for our school. It was a fun way to learn about using energy and water wisely.
