The POWERHOUSE energy investigation program was brought to Weimar Junior High School by the City of Weimar, Fayette Electric Cooperative (FEC), and San Bernarad Electric Cooperative (SBEC).

Students receive an 8-page energy investigation booklet to take home and fill out with their parent's assistance. The investigation booklet asks students questions about their home's energy and water use.

Each student receives a personalized four-page report from the information they provided from the energy investigation guide. The report lists patterns of energy and water use, comparisons with statewide average households and energy and water-saving tips. Students learn about the relationship between the use of energy and the environment as well as ways to use energy and water efficiently.

Students learn that shading with solar screens, porches, trees and shrubs can help reduce electricity for their household.

Bob Hancock of SBEC goes over the benefits of using Low-flow showerheads, faucet aerators and low-flow toilets that can save 50% of students' home water usage. These devices can help reduce the water cost for their family.

Catherine Poppe of FEC helps students learn that compact fluorescent lighting is the most energy efficient type of lighting for their home.

Students play a "jeopardy-type" game as a review for a quiz that is offered to their teacher.

Thank you to the City of Weiimar, FEC and SBEC for sponsoring POWERHOUSE for our school. We had fun learning how to save energy and water for our homes.
