Bandera Electric Cooperative brought the POWERHOUSE energy investigation program to Curington Elementary School.

Students receive an 8-page energy investigation booklet to take home and fill out with their parent's assistance. The investigation booklet asks students questions about their home's energy and water use.

Each student receives a 4-page personalized report based on their answers to the energy investigation guide. The report shows students what areas of their homes are using the most energy and water. The personalized report helps students and their families see how they can help conserve resources by recommending ways to save energy and water.

Students see that compact fluorescent lighting uses less electricity than incandescent lighting.
|
|
|
|
|
Shading for windows, either by solar screens, porches, trees and shrubs can help reduce the summer cooling cost.
|
|
|
|
|
Students learn they can save energy and water by using low flow devises such as low-flow showerheads, faucets and toilets.
|
|
|
|
|
Student play a "jeopardy-type" game as a review for a quiz that is offered to their teacher. Michele Henderson of BEC asks students the answer to this question on jeopardy.

|
Students learn about the relationship between the use of energy and the environment as well as ways to use energy and water efficiently.
