The POWERHOUSE energy investigation program was brought to Schulenburg Junior High School by the City of Schulenburg and Fayette Electric Cooperative (FEC).

Students receive an 8-page energy investigation booklet to take home and fill out with their parent's assistance. The investigation booklet asks students questions about their home's energy and water use.

A 4-page personalized report is generated based on their answers to the energy investigation booklet. The report shows students what areas of their homes are using the most energy and water.

Julie Cernosek of the City of Schulenburg reviews this student's report with him. The report lists patterns of energy and water use, comparisons with statewide average households and energy and water-saving tips.

Students learn about energy and water efficiency from the POWERHOUSE energy investigation program. Here is an example of a compact fluorescent light bulb that can easily replace incandescent bulbs and save energy and dollars.

Students learn that low-flow devices such as showerheads, faucets and toilets can save up to 50% of their household's water usage. Saving water can also save energy through the water heater.

Thank you to the City of Schulenburg and FEC for bringing POWERHOUSE to our school. It was a fun way to learn about energy and water efficiency.
