POWERHOUSE was brought to Lexington Middle School by the City of Lexington.

Each student received an 8-page energy investigation booklet which they took home to perform a home energy audit with the help of their parents. The booklet asked questions about their homes' energy and water use.

Each student receives a 4-page personalized report based on their answers to the energy investigation booklet. The report shows students what areas of their homes are using the most energy and water.

The personalized report helps students and their families see how they can help conserve resources by recommending ways to save energy and water.

Students learn that compact fluorescent lighting is the most energy efficient type of lighting for their home.

Low-flow showerheads, faucet aerators and low-flow toilets can save 50% of students' home water usage. These devices can help reduce the water cost for their family as well as energy through the water heater.

Students find that shading, such as solar screens, porches, trees and shrubs can keep rooms cooler, therefore, reducing their summer cooling cost.

Thank you to the City of Lexington for sponsoring POWERHOUSE for our school. We learned a lot about saving electricity and water. It was a fun way to learn.
