EAGLE LAKE, Texas – The Eagle Lake Recreation Center will soon build a new equipment shed and concession area at the Eagle Lake Recreation Center, thanks to a $24,960 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority.

The LCRA Community Development Partnership Program grant, along with $24,960 in matching funds from the Eagle Lake Recreation Center, will fund the addition of a larger, secure shed to protect vital maintenance equipment, as well as provide a covered space for concession sales during community events and tournaments.

The center’s new shed will help store and preserve equipment used to maintain more than 40 acres of public recreational space, including a golf course, tennis courts, pickleball courts and a picnic area. Some of the equipment now sits outside and is exposed to the elements, leading to costly wear and tear and lessening its useful life. Housing the tools in a centralized, locked location will help extend their tools’ usefulness and improve upkeep across the property.

“As a small, volunteer-run nonprofit, we’ve never had a dedicated space to store or work on our equipment, including a new mower that was a significant investment for us,” said Brock Ashby, treasurer of the Eagle Lake Recreation Center. “This grant allows us to build a 50’x70’ shed with electricity and a workbench to protect and maintain vital tools, while also creating a covered area that will serve as a concession area during tournaments, barbecues and other local events.”

The community grant is one of 45 grants awarded recently through LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program, which helps volunteer fire departments, local governments, emergency responders and nonprofit organizations fund eligible capital improvement projects in LCRA’s wholesale electric, water and transmission service areas. The program is part of LCRA’s effort to give back to the communities it serves.

Applications for the next round of grants will be accepted in July 2025. More information is available at lcra.org/cdpp.
