Hays Energy to Kendall Corridor Transmission Line Upgrade Program

LCRA Transmission Services Corporation is rebuilding an approximately 60-mile transmission line corridor from Hays Energy Substation near Interstate 35 in San Marcos to Kendall Substation near Comfort. This transmission upgrade program includes 10 projects.

These projects will help support the reliability of the ERCOT power grid and allow continued safe and reliable operation of the transmission system. New transmission line structures and conductor wire will be installed.

Latest Update – September 2023

Construction work is continuing on the Esperanza-Fair Oaks and Boerne-Esperanza projects in Kendall County. Construction on Esperanza-Fair Oaks is scheduled to be completed in October 2023, and construction on Boerne-Esperanza is scheduled for completion in February 2024. Work is underway on the Highway 46-River Oaks and the Antler-Highway 46 projects in Comal County. Highway 46-River Oaks completion is expected around the end of May 2024, and Antler-Highway 46 completion is expected around the end of June 2024.

Previous Project Updates

July 2023
Crews have completed work on the Hays Energy-Henne and Henne-River Oaks projects, and are removing equipment from those sections. Construction work is now occurring on the Boerne-Esperanza and Esperanza-Fair Oaks projects in Kendall County. Construction on those segments is scheduled to be completed in November 2023. Construction work is scheduled to begin in August on the Highway 46-River Oaks and the Antler-Highway 46 projects in Comal County.
December 2022
Construction started in late 2022 on the eastern end of the corridor in Hays County moving westward into Comal County. LCRA staff members and contractors will be present along the rights of way, and crews using large vehicles and equipment will be present during construction.
