LCRA, PEC award $25,000 grant for new restrooms at Creekside Park
New facility will provide first public restroom in Woodcreek

WOODCREEK, Texas – The City of Woodcreek soon will construct a public restroom facility at the popular Creekside Park, thanks to a $25,000 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and Pedernales Electric Cooperative.
The Community Development Partnership Program grant, along with $45,595 in matching funds from the City of Woodcreek, will help fund the town’s first permanent public restroom, providing a much-needed convenience for visitors to Creekside Park, which has seen a surge in use since the installation of a new playscape.
Woodcreek Mayor Jeff Rasco said the restroom is a major step forward for the growing community.
“With the help of previous grants, we’ve been able to add a beautiful playscape and make other improvements to Creekside Park, but those didn’t include restrooms,” Rasco said. “When my family and I first moved to Woodcreek, my son was one of just a few children in the neighborhood. Now there are more than 25 kids just on our block. This new grant helps us meet the needs of a growing community and ensures children have a safe, comfortable place to play.”
The new permanent restroom will replace a temporary portable toilet and will be ADA-compliant and accessible for all park visitors.
“There were two major needs we had to address with this project, providing an adequate facility for park goers and making sure it was fully accessible,” Rasco said. “This grant makes both possible. We don’t have any public restrooms in the city, so this project fills a long-missing public amenity, one that will greatly benefit families using the park and the many pedestrians who enjoy our small Hill Country community.”
Phil Wilson, LCRA general manager, said LCRA is proud to play a role in helping Creekside Park continue to make significant improvements to better serve the Woodcreek community.
“Providing safe, modern parks such as Creekside Park is important because it offers a playground and a place to exercise, as well as a place to come have picnics and share some time together,” Wilson said. “Adding amenities will make it easier for people to enjoy the park and spend hours at a time outdoors enjoying nature.”
The facility will also include a rainwater collection system for irrigating native plants, with the potential for rainwater reuse in toilets in the future.
The community grant is one of 45 grants awarded recently through LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program, which helps volunteer fire departments, local governments, emergency responders and nonprofit organizations fund eligible capital improvement projects in LCRA’s wholesale electric, water and transmission service areas. The program is part of LCRA’s effort to give back to the communities it serves. Pedernales Electric Cooperative is one of LCRA’s wholesale electric customers and is a partner in the grant program.
