WAELDER, Texas – The City of Waelder soon will replace aging playground equipment at Waelder City Park, thanks to a $22,595 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority.
The community grant, along with $5,649 in matching funds from the city, will help upgrade the park with new and modern playground equipment to provide a safer and more engaging space for children and families. Some of the current equipment has been in place since the early 1990s and has become cracked or unstable.
“This project will really benefit the public and especially the kids,” said Adolph Gonzales, acting city manager for the City of Waelder. “People use the park every day, and some of the equipment had been there for decades and was in rough shape. These upgrades will make the playground safer and give families something to look forward to enjoying together as a community.”
Waelder City Park serves as the community’s primary recreation area. The new equipment will help promote physical activity and create an engaging space for children to develop social skills and lifelong friendships. Modern play equipment also will make it a more inviting gathering space for area residents.
This is one of 41 grants awarded recently through LCRA Community Grants. These grants are awarded twice a year as part of LCRA’s effort to give back to communities in its wholesale electric, water and transmission service areas. The City of Waelder is one of LCRA’s wholesale electric customers and is a partner in the grant program.
Applications for the next round of grants will be accepted in January. More information is available at lcra.org/cdpp.
