Quiet and Warm Weather Continues this Week with Little Rain on the Horizon

We’re looking at a quiet week of weather across the region with more unseasonably mild temperatures. The most notable feature of this week’s weather will involve the wind as breezy conditions are expected to develop Tuesday, persisting through late week.

Monday’s weather maps showed a broad ridge of high pressure covering Texas and the south-central U.S. This feature will keep the storm track well up to our north while causing dry and tranquil weather across the state. To our west, a large trough of low pressure was beginning t to take shape along the West Coast. Forecasts call for a couple of weak waves of low pressure to move through the trough this week and eject out into the Plains states—too far to the north to bring any rain to Texas. However, these features will be close enough to set up a strong pressure gradient.

Southerly winds with speeds of 10-15 mph and gusts to 25 mph are forecast Tuesday.

For Wednesday and Thursday, expect southerly breezes in the range of 10-15 mph and occasionally higher gusts each day.

Expect a sunny to partly cloudy sky Tuesday through Friday.

  • High temperatures Tuesday through Thursday are predicted to generally be near 80-82 degrees
  • High temperatures Friday will be in the upper 70s.

  • Low temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday mornings are forecast to be in the low and mid-50s
  • Lows Thursday and Friday mornings will generally be in the low 60s.

For the weekend, forecasts call for a fairly strong, but dry cold front to push through the area sometime late Friday or early Saturday. The front will cause breezy northerly winds on Saturday while bringing in some cooler air.

  • High temperatures are forecast to be in the low 70s Saturday, lowering to the upper 60s on Sunday
  • Highs next Monday and Tuesday are predicted to be in the upper 60s to low 70s.
  • Low temperatures Sunday morning will range from the low 40s across the Hill Country, to the mid-40s across Central Texas, to the low 50s near the coast
  • Lows next Monday and Tuesday mornings will range from the upper 30s across the Hill Country, to the mid-40s near the coast

The outlook for next week calls for continued dry weather throughout the week as our region looks to remain under the influence of a weak ridge of high pressure. Temperatures are forecast to stay mild, with highs in the 70s to low 80s, and lows mostly in the 50s.

There are no signs of any unusually cold weather headed our way through the first week of March.

Venus is Back!

The bright planet Venus Brilliant Venus has come into view low in the western sky after sunset following its superior conjunction behind the Sun back in January. Look for Venus to climb higher in the sky each evening after sunset until early June. Venus should peak in brilliance during mid-September.

Have a great week!
