LCRA awards $320,000 in grants for water conservation projects

LCRA has awarded a total of $320,000 in grants to enable three water utilities and a country club to upgrade their infrastructure to improve water conservation efforts and conserve water from the Highland Lakes.

The grants are provided through the LCRA’s Firm Water Conservation Cost-Share Program.

City of Cedar Park
A $100,000 grant will allow the City of Cedar Park to construct new infrastructure to store and deliver treated wastewater to irrigate Lakeline Park, which currently relies on potable water for irrigation. This will reduce peak-day potable water demand and conserve Highland Lakes water. Cedar Park anticipates the almost $1.78 million project will save about 19 acre-feet – or roughly 6.19 million gallons – of water annually.

Travis County WCID 17
A $100,000 grant to Travis County Water Control and Improvement District 17 will help the district construct a pump station and a reclaimed water transmission main line to deliver treated wastewater to irrigate a new multiuse development in Lakeway. The development would otherwise rely on potable water for irrigation. Travis County WCID 17 anticipates the nearly $1.76 million project will save about 19 acre-feet – or roughly 6.19 million gallons – of water annually.

Travis County WCID – Point Venture
A $20,000 grant will help Travis County WCID – Point Venture install pressure sensors and pressure detection software to isolate leaks. The district anticipates the $52,000 project will save about 10 acre-feet – or roughly 3.26 million gallons – of water annually.

Great Hills Country Club
Great Hills Country Club will replace its irrigation system to address leaking pipes; improve coverage, distribution uniformity and efficiency; and convert 3 acres of roughs to native areas. The $4.79 million project also includes an additional storage reservoir and course reshaping to encourage additional runoff capture. LCRA staff estimates the project will save about 25.7 acre-feet – or roughly 8.37 million gallons – of water from the Highland Lakes annually.
