CLYDE, Texas – The Bulldog Community Park Board soon will bring the inactive splash pad at Bulldog Community Park, formerly known as Clyde Public Park, back into operation to provide a fun, safe space to cool off in the summer heat, thanks to a $25,000 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority.

The LCRA Community Grant, along with more than $128,000 in matching funds from the park board, will pay for a new water recirculation system at the splash pad, which has remained out of operation since shortly after its installation in 2021 due to water drainage and operational challenges.

“When the splash pad was installed in 2021, it didn’t include a water recirculation system, which quickly led to issues that forced it to shut down,” said David Mann, president of the Bulldog Community Park Board. “We saw firsthand how much it meant to families during the short time it was open, and when it closed, it left a real void in our community. This project is not simply a matter of infrastructure. It’s about restoring a place where kids can play, families can gather and neighbors can connect again, especially as summer nears.”

The new recirculation system will be designed to conserve water, eliminate the drainage issues that occurred in 2021 and help ensure the splash pad can operate safely and sustainably for years to come.

Mann said revamping and reopening the splash pad would not be possible without the help of the local community, the organization’s board members and business partners.

“There have been so many fundraisers along the way that brought this community together, and now, with a fully functional splash pad, even more memories can be made at the park,” Mann said.

“With support from LCRA and our local investment, we’re turning a long-standing challenge into a lasting asset for Clyde, one that brings joy back to our park and creates meaningful opportunities for community connection.”

This is one of 41 grants awarded recently through LCRA Community Grants. These grants are awarded twice a year as part of LCRA’s effort to give back to communities in its wholesale electric, water and transmission service areas.

Applications for the next round of grants will be accepted in July. More information is available at www.lcra.org/grants.
