A Sunny Thanksgiving Followed by Another Chance for Rain on the Weekend
NOV. 25, 2025
A Pacific cold front spreading southeast across the region on Monday brought showers and a few thunderstorms to the region on Monday. Rain amounts were highest over the area between San Angelo, Abilene, and Goldthwaite, with totals averaging between 1 and 2 inches. Another area of 1–2-inch totals occurred across parts of Fayette, Colorado, and Austin Counties. Elsewhere, most totals generally averaged below a quarter inch.
Dry and quiet weather conditions are in place now in the wake of Tuesday’s cold front. After a cool start, Tuesday’s weather is shaping up to be sunny and quite mild. High temperatures are forecast to generally be in the upper 70s to low 80s. However, the mild temperatures won’t last for long. Tuesday’s weather maps showed an area of chilly air over the northern and central Rockies that is quickly spreading to the southeast along a cold front. The front is forecast to reach the northern Hill Country around midnight Tuesday night, then track southeast across Central Texas and the middle Texas coast late Tuesday night. With limited moisture in place, no rain is expected with the front. Behind the front, the wind will shift to the north with speeds of 10-15 mph and gusts to near 25/30 mph. Wind speeds look to diminish to 5-10 mph Wednesday night.
Sunny and noticeably cooler weather will follow the cold front Wednesday through Friday.
- Lows Wednesday morning will include the low and mid-40s across the Hill Country, the upper 40s across Central Texas, and the low and mid-50s across the coastal plains
- Lows Thanksgiving morning are forecast to be in the upper 30s across the Hill Country, the upper 30s to low 40s across Central Texas, and the mid-40s across the coastal plains
- Lows Friday morning are predicted to be in the mid and upper 40s
- High temperatures Wednesday are forecast to be in the low 60s across the Hill Country and Central Texas, with mid to upper 60s towards the coast
- High temperatures Thanksgiving Day will generally be in the mid and upper 60s
- High temperatures Friday are forecast to be near 68-70 degrees
Clouds will increase, with the sky becoming mostly cloudy on Friday as southerly breezes increase ahead of trough of low pressure diving southeast out of the northern Rockies. Forecasts call for the trough to reach the southern Plains states Saturday, then lift off to the northeast on Sunday. The approaching trough will pull Gulf moisture north into Texas on Friday, setting the stage from the development of showers and scattered thunderstorms from the eastern eastern Hill Country, southeast to the coast. Spotty light showers are forecast Friday evening, followed by a 50 percent chance for rain showers after midnight Friday night. Saturday’s weather will feature a 50 percent chance for showers and scattered thunderstorms throughout the day, continuing into Saturday evening.
A cold front is forecast to push southeast across the area Saturday night, bringing another blast of cooler air that will continue into next week. Meanwhile, a second trough of low pressure is forecast to track southeast from the Rockies on Sunday that will cause a chance for rain showers Sunday through Monday. The chance for rain is expected to end on Tuesday. Do note the best dynamics for rain with the weekend trough are predicted to be across Southeast Texas and Louisiana.
Rain amounts from both weekend systems are forecast to range from less than a quarter inch across the western Hill Country, to the around a half inch along the Interstate 35 corridor, to near 1-2 inches along the middle Texas coast.
NWS Rainfall Forecast Valid through 6 pm Tuesday:

Much cooler temperatures are forecast for the first half of next week in the wake of the weekend cold front. A light freeze appears possible for much of the Hill Country next Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Elsewhere, lows are forecast to range from the upper 30s to low 40s. High temperatures are predicted to be in the 50s.
Sunny weather looks to develop Wednesday, continuing through next Friday. Milder readings are forecast late next week.
Tropical Weather Outlook
