LAWN, Texas – The City of Lawn soon will purchase and install two prefabricated restroom units and a new septic system at Lawn City Park, thanks to a $21,158 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority.

The community grant, along with $5,500 in matching funds from the City of Lawn, will add ADA-accessible, water-efficient restrooms for public use. The project will eliminate the need to rent portable toilets for festivals, cookouts, tournaments and other events held at the park throughout the year.

“We don’t currently have public restrooms at the park outside of the ballfields, which limits how people can use the space,” said Veronica Burleson, mayor of Lawn. “These new facilities will make the park more welcoming for local families, visitors to our temporary RV spots and attendees at our year-round community events.”

The improvements will enhance public health, improve comfort and reduce operating challenges during tournaments, fundraisers, holiday celebrations and daily park use. The changes also will support the city’s efforts to provide inclusive, family-friendly community spaces.

This is one of 41 grants awarded recently through LCRA Community Grants. These grants are awarded twice a year as part of LCRA’s effort to give back to communities in its wholesale electric, water and transmission service areas.

Applications for the next round of grants will be accepted in January. More information is available at lcra.org/cdpp.
