COTTONWOOD SHORES, Texas – The City of Cottonwood Shores soon will be able to count new restroom facilities as amenities at two popular community parks, thanks to a $15,952 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and Pedernales Electric Cooperative.

The community grant, along with $15,952 in matching funds from the city, will help fund the construction of new accessible restroom facilities at Aspen and Noah Thompson parks. The facilities will help the parks provide visitors with essential amenities to encourage longer recreational visits and promote physical activity and social interaction.

“This project will make a meaningful difference for our residents,” Mayor Jared Dodd said. “The new restroom facilities will be used every day as families visit the parks, children wait at the nearby bus stop and our community comes together to play, fish, entertain and spend quality time outdoors. These improvements ensure that everyone can comfortably enjoy our parks and the experiences that make Cottonwood Shores a great place to live.”

Both restrooms are expected to be completed by the summer of 2026.

Aspen Park currently includes a restroom facility, as well as a small playground, partial basketball court, exercise equipment and picnic tables. Noah Thompson Park, which does not have any restroom facilities, has picnic tables and access to Lake Marble Falls.

“We are incredibly grateful to LCRA and Pedernales Electric Cooperative for their generous support, which is making these much-needed park restrooms a reality,” City Administrator J.C. Hughes said. “A special thanks goes to court clerk Nancy Chumley, whose dedication and hard work on the grant application helped secure this funding. We’re excited for the community to enjoy this added amenity to our parks, hopefully within the next year.”

This is one of 41 grants awarded recently through LCRA Community Grants. These grants are awarded twice a year as part of LCRA’s effort to give back to communities in its wholesale electric, water and transmission service areas. Pedernales Electric Cooperative is one of LCRA’s wholesale electric customers and is a partner in the Community Grants program.

Applications for the next round of grants will be accepted in January. More information is available at lcra.org/cdpp.
