GOLDTHWAITE, Texas – The Goldthwaite Athletic Booster Club soon will upgrade the school district’s baseball and softball facilities with help from a $25,000 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and the City of Goldthwaite. The enhancements will include upgraded practice and game spaces, better seating for fans and new infrastructure to enable the fields to host more tournaments and community events.
The Community Development Partnership Program grant, along with $8,490 in matching funds from the Goldthwaite Athletic Booster Club, will help fund the construction of batting cages, renovation of team dugouts and improvements to the fields and community gathering areas provided by the Goldthwaite Consolidated Independent School District. This project is the second phase of a previously funded plan designed to upgrade the school district’s athletic facilities and provide a welcoming, inclusive environment that supports student-athletes, provides excellent athletic facilities for community members and strengthens community pride.
“This grant is truly transformational for our community,” said April Wetzig, president of the Goldthwaite Athletic Booster Club. “It allows us to significantly upgrade our baseball and softball facilities, improving the safety, functionality and the overall experience for players, families and fans. The enhancements represent more than just physical improvements, they’re a reflection of our commitment to youth development, school pride and long-term growth.”
The improvements are expected to benefit not only students in the Goldthwaite school district but also youth teams, community groups and residents from across Mills County and Central Texas. The enhanced facilities will offer year-round access and support a wide range of activities, from after-school sports to community gatherings and large-scale events that promote health, wellness and regional collaboration.
“Without this support from LCRA, our ability to provide a top-tier environment for practices, games and events would have been limited,” Wetzig said. “Thanks to this investment, we’re creating a space our athletes and community can be proud of.”
The community grant is one of 45 grants awarded recently through LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program, which helps volunteer fire departments, local governments, emergency responders and nonprofit organizations fund eligible capital improvement projects in LCRA’s wholesale electric, water and transmission service areas. The program is part of LCRA’s effort to give back to the communities it serves. The City of Goldthwaite is one of LCRA’s wholesale electric customers and is a partner in the grant program.
