EVANT, Texas – The Evant Independent School District soon will upgrade its school playground with new equipment and improved ground cover, thanks to a $24,975 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and Hamilton County Electric Cooperative.

The LCRA Community Development Partnership Program grant, along with $27,295 in matching funds from the school district, will enable the school to replace outdated playground structures and create a safer, more modern play environment for children of all ages.

Superintendent Jennifer Ingram said the playground upgrade will benefit students during the school day, and serve as a gathering place for the entire community.

“The new playground will be open to the public outside of school hours, creating a shared space that promotes health, connection and fun for children and families,” Ingram said. “As children grow, they need space to engage in active play, which is essential for building motor skills, coordination and overall physical health. A modern playground also encourages imaginative play, teamwork and problem-solving. The benefits of this project will be felt far beyond the school day, supporting positive development and community bonding for years to come.”

Ingram said the school is incredibly thankful for organizations that are helping to create enriching experiences for both students and local residents.

“We truly appreciate the support and vision of LCRA and Hamilton County Electric Co-op in helping us create a space that brings people together,” Ingram said. “Their investment in our children’s well-being and in our community’s vitality is both meaningful and lasting.”

The community grant is one of 45 grants awarded recently through LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program, which helps volunteer fire departments, local governments, emergency responders and nonprofit organizations fund eligible capital improvement projects in LCRA’s wholesale electric, water and transmission service areas. The program is part of LCRA’s effort to give back to the communities it serves. Hamilton County Electric Cooperative is one of LCRA’s wholesale electric customers and is a partner in the grant program.

Applications for the next round of grants will be accepted in July 2025. More information is available at lcra.org/cdpp.
