Updating the Water Management Plan
LCRA is in the process of updating its current Water Management Plan that was approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality in 2020.
In February 2026, the LCRA Board of Directors approved proposed updates to the plan, and LCRA submitted its proposed updates to TCEQ for approval in March.
What’s new in this update:
- Updated water demand projections to 2032 conditions for LCRA’s firm water customers, mainly cities, industries and retail water suppliers.
- Includes hydrology from 1940 through 2023, including the most severe drought in our region. (The current plan includes hydrology from 1940 through 2016.)
- Higher lake storage triggers for moving between the three water supply conditions and determining instream flow and bay inflow criteria levels.
- Less stored water available for diversion by agricultural customers in the lower basin.
Summary of proposed changes for 2032 Water Management Plan application
As part of the update process, LCRA met with water customers and other interested groups. Documents presented at the meetings are posted here.
